In November 2016 the Japanese multinational KATO WORKS LTD. and Japanese conglomerate IHI Corporation Ltd. (IHI) have signed an agreement to transfer 100% of the shares of IHI Construction Machinery Ltd. from IHI to KATO. With this operation KATO WORKS LTD. also acquired control of 51% of IHIMER S.p.A. (joint-venture founded in 2002) based in San Gimignano (Siena) in Italy, while the remaining

The Japanese giant KATO WORKS LTD., which produces a vast range of construction machinery and has been active in the sector since 1895, has decided to invest in Europe convinced of the centrality of the market, in collaboration with the Italian IMER GROUP, European leader in the production of machinery for construction and concrete plants.

KATO IMER S.p.a. produces in Italy KATO technology mini‐excavators (from 0.9 to 3.7 quintals), skid‐loaders and tracked minidumpers; distributes mini excavators, excavators and crawler carriers manufactured in Japan by KATO WORKS. The mini excavators cover a range from 0.9 to 8.5 tonnes, short‐tail, traditional and zero tail swing.
The availability of wheeled skids is currently limited to a single model (AS12) but the company is developing a new range of machines, both wheeled and tracked, with an operating load from 400 to 4500 kg., which will see the light in 2024. Dumpers are divided into two classes: mini dumpers, with an operating load from 400 to 2500 kg, for renovations and nurseries; dump trucks with operating loads between 3500 and 11000 kg used in civil engineering and infrastructure construction.

The KATO IMER plant in San Gimignano, in the province of Siena, covers an area of over 36,000 square metres. The constant search for innovation and the continuous design activity allow the company to develop cutting‐edge machines that perfectly respond to market needs.
The largest mini-excavators, excavators and crawler carriers marketed by KATO IMER S.p.a. in Europe are instead produced in one of the Japanese factories available to the parent company. Specifically, this is the Ota plant, in Gunma Prefecture in Japan. This factory, which occupies a total surface area of over 215,000 square metres, is the Group's flagship in terms of the most cutting-edge KATO technology.

KATO IMER products are marketed thanks to a network of over 100 distributors and resellers, which uniformly covers all the main European countries and others on the five continents. A worldwide distribution network has already been set up for the skid and minidumper lines.
